Save on your electricity bill: see tips for winter – 06/28/2023 – Market

This Tuesday (27), Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency) approved the periodic review of Enel Distribuição São Paulo’s tariff, which will have a drop of 2.24% on average. But, even with the cheaper price, the concessionaire claims that it is necessary to be careful not to spend too much energy and pay an expensive electricity bill.

According to the company, a 15-minute shower per day, per person, for a home with four residents, is equivalent to the energy expenditure of approximately 400 13 W LED lamps for one hour. This consumption is equivalent to about R$ 100 on the electricity bill.

On less cold days, one option is to program the shower for warm or summer (ice cold), which yields savings estimated by Enel at 30%. “What spends more is the device that is misused or used excessively. All appliances can be villains”, says André Oswaldo, responsible for the market area at Enel Distribuição São Paulo.

Another tip to save on your electricity bill is to replace incandescent bulbs with fluorescent or LED ones, which consume 60% to 80% less energy, according to the company.

Bruno Herbert, president of Abesco (Brazilian Association of Energy Conservation Services Companies), says that the appliances that consume the most energy are the refrigerator, the wine cellar, the electric shower, the air conditioning and, mainly, the space heater.

“To save energy during the winter, you can follow tips such as regulating the space heater thermostat to a comfortable temperature, but not too high, and avoiding putting hot food inside the refrigerator, as this makes it spend more energy to maintain the internal temperature”, he says.

According to Enel, heaters can account for a third of household electricity costs on colder days. The concessionaire suggests that consumers do not keep this appliance turned on for a long time and that they use it only when they are in the environment.

Here are tips to save energy during the winter:

Electric shower

  • Avoid long showers
  • Set to summer mode or warm mode on hotter days

Heater

  • Avoid leaving it on for long periods of time.
  • Use it only when you are in the environment
  • Set the thermostat to a comfortable temperature, but not too high.

Lighting

  • Swap incandescent light bulbs for fluorescent or LED
  • Enjoy natural light during the day
  • When painting the walls, give preference to light colors, which better reflect the light.

Washing machine and dryer

  • Use the maximum capacity of the washing machine
  • Avoid using the heated water function
  • Use the dryer only when necessary

Refrigerator

  • Do not open the refrigerator door unnecessarily.
  • Check if the refrigerator gasket is in good condition.
  • Do not use the back of the appliance to dry clothes.
  • Turn down the fridge power on cold days
  • Avoid putting hot food in the fridge

Air conditioning

  • Clean filters periodically
  • Use the “timer” function to program the automatic shutdown of the device

Hairdryer

  • Dry your hair with a towel before using a hairdryer.
  • Use a lower wattage to shorten equipment usage time

Low-income consumers can benefit from the Electricity Social Tariff —which offers a discount of up to 65% for customers who fit this profile.

Since January last year, the Social Tariff is automatically granted to eligible families. However, André Oswaldo, from Enel, says that consumers need to be aware and update their data in CadÚnico (Cadastro Único) to access the benefit.

The concessionaire, which operates in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Ceará, says that more than 2.5 million consumers were benefited by the program in May, which represents a growth of 29% compared to the same period of the year. past.

Fare reduction in Sao Paulo

According to Aneel, Enel Distribuição São Paulo serves around 7.7 million consumer units in 24 municipalities in the metropolitan region, according to the municipality.

On average, the consumer will feel a drop of 2.24% in the tariff charged by the distributor from July 4th, but the effects are different for each group. For residences, the reduction will be 0.91%.

Also according to Aneel, the tariff flag in effect this month is green, which indicates favorable conditions for power generation and does not impose any increase in the tariff. This scenario has been observed since April last year and should remain unchanged this year, according to the agency.
