Santa Casa cancels part of the residency tests – 12/12/2023 – Balance and Health

Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo will cancel part of the medical residency exams administered last Saturday (9) and reapply the exam.

The decision covers candidates for nine programs: pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics, endocrinology and metabolism, gastroenterology, geriatrics, hematology and hemotherapy, clinical oncology, pulmonology and rheumatology. Together, they offer 55 vacancies and mobilize 933 candidates.

The other programs will follow the schedule published in the notice.

According to the Instituto Mais de Gestão e Desenvolvimento Social, responsible for administering the tests, it was found that there was a failure to deliver the test package to one of the rooms at the Anhembi Morumbi University where candidates for residency in pediatrics were located.

The error, says Santa Casa, generated a commotion that hampered the progress of the test in some nearby rooms, where candidates for the pediatrics and gynecology and obstetrics programs were. Therefore, these specialties will have the tests reapplied.

Furthermore, Instituto Mais and Santa Casa found errors in printing the question papers for the other seven areas, which will also have the application cancelled. The date of the new test has not yet been announced.

The institute states that it regrets the facts and is internally investigating the errors. Santa Casa also states that it regrets the occurrences and reinforces that the Medical Residency Committee “will always strive to guarantee equality in access to programs.

The problems in applying the evidence were reported by the law firm De Souza Aranha on Sunday (10). In a public note signed by lawyers and 25 doctors, reports are mentioned, for example, that “some copies of the test had a slight light gray highlight on the correct alternatives”.

This Tuesday (12), the office informed that it will file a request for an injunction to cancel the tests for all specialties or suspend the approval of the first phase until the irregularities are investigated.

In the request that will be presented, the lawyers list the following flaws:

• In room 72 at Universidade Anhembi Morumbi – Mooca, pediatrics candidates witnessed a tampered test bag, with 20 copies of tests missing. Some candidates went to the police station and a police report was registered;
• In the next room, the commotion distracted the candidates for the gynecology and obstetrics specialty and the exam time was arbitrarily increased to try to overcome the situation;
• There was no identification on part of the desks in the rooms used and no control over exits from the room to go to the bathroom;
• There was free communication between the candidates among themselves and with the inspectors in the corridors and bathrooms during the test period.

“The fairness of the process as a whole was attacked”, says lawyer Gabriel Prado de Souza Aranha. “The fair thing would be to cancel all specialties.”
