Samu Manaus has eight motorcycles to provide agility in assisting victims
Manaus (AM) – The Mobile Emergency Service (Samu 192), managed by the City of Manaus, is activated to provide assistance to around 10,000 incidents of traffic accidents every year in the capital of Amazonas. Combating the problem has been reinforced by the Municipal Health Secretariat (Semsa) with health education actions, amid the actions of the Yellow May campaign.
The director of Samu Manaus, nurse Elen Assunção, informs that the service, coordinated by Semsa, attended to 10,694 traffic accidents last year. This year, from January to April, 4,301 incidents have already been attended to, the majority due to a collision between a car and a motorcycle and a fall from a motorcycle.
“The calls are received through the number 192, and in view of the report on the victim’s health and the location of the accident, our regulators define the best strategy to deal with the occurrence, as quickly as possible”,
explains Elen.
The nurse points out that Samu Manaus has eight motorcycles to speed up the care of victims, since motorcycles can travel more easily in the middle of intense traffic, which is often generated by the accident itself.
“The service also has 34 Basic Support Units and seven Advanced Support Units (USA) to guarantee adequate assistance to victims of traffic accidents, in addition to two river ambulances”,
scores.
In the last four years, the average number of traffic accidents recorded by Samu Manaus has remained stable, but it is still high. There were 10.5 thousand cases in 2019, 10.6 thousand in 2020; 10.1 thousand in the year 2021; and 10.6 thousand last year.
“The guideline is that victims of traffic accidents are not moved until the arrival of Samu professionals, who will take the most appropriate action to mobilize this patient to a health unit”,
inform.
Health education
As part of the actions of the Yellow May campaign, which aims to sensitize the population about traffic safety, with the aim of reducing the accident rate, Semsa will be at strategic points in the city promoting health education actions, with guidance to passers-by and delivery gifts and informative material.
The program, coordinated by Semsa’s Center for Prevention of Health Risks due to External Causes and Risk Factors, starts this Monday, 22nd, at Terminal 3, Cidade Nova neighborhood, North zone.
“We will have the ‘D-Day’ of the campaign in each Health District, starting today at Disa Norte, to mobilize our entire society in sharing information that guarantees traffic safety in our daily lives”,
informs Carla Azevedo, head of the nucleus.
Next Tuesday, the 23rd, the action will be promoted by Disa Sul, at traffic lights on Avenida Umberto Calderaro, in the Adrianópolis neighborhood. On Wednesday, 5/24, Disa Leste will mobilize the community at the Vila da Felicidade school, in the Mauazinho neighborhood. On Thursday, the 25th, it’s the turn of Disa Oeste, at the state school Gonçalves Dias, in the Dom Pedro neighborhood, and on Friday, the 26th, the Arthur Virgílio school (BR-174) will host the action coordinated by Disa Rural.
