Samsung launched this Wednesday (17) the Samsung Galaxy S24, the company’s new generation of smartphones. The proposal changed its focus from the 200 MP (megapixel) main camera to new options powered by artificial intelligence.

Among the new features, there is an option for simultaneous audio transcription and translation, photo enhancement, smart keyboard and “magic editing”, which promises intuitive touch-ups on photos and videos. The translation option works in 13 languages ​​and includes Portuguese.

The line is now available for pre-sale in Brazil and covers the S24, S24 Plus and S24 Ultra models.

In Brazil, the Galaxy S24 starts at R$5,999 (in the 128 GB version), the S24 Plus starts at R$6,999 (256 GB), and the S24 Ultra starts at R$9,999 (256 GB) —reaching R$ 12,999, in the 1 TB version.

It will be the first time that some AI news, already available in the USA through the Google Pixel 8, arrive in Brazil. One example is the night photography and video feature, which corrects the lack of light with the help of artificial intelligence.

Samsung’s new artificial intelligence solutions were developed in partnership with Google, based on the Gemini Ultra model, made with a focus on smartphones.

In the announcement, the Korean company presented the possibility of creating stickers from photos, using AI.

Another partnership between Samsung and Google allows you to circulate image elements to search for them on the internet. Artificial intelligence is also key in this process.

Samsung’s new cell phones are equipped with Qualcomm’s custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chip. The processor dedicated to artificial intelligence makes AI models run smoothly on S24 line smartphones.

The announcement took place during the Galaxy AI is coming event, in San Jose, in the United States. The Korean company repeated the strategy of simultaneous launch in Brazil and the USA, adopted for the first time in 2023.

Samsung’s top-of-the-line version, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, maintained the 200 megapixel main camera, accompanied by two telephoto lenses — one 50 MP and the other 10 MP — and a 12 MP ultrawide. The front camera is 12 MP.

The S24 and S24 Plus do not have the 200 MP camera, just the other three, in addition to the front one.

Samsung, with the use of AI, announces improvements in image processing and new tools such as instant slow-motion videos, digital zoom of up to 500 times and night photography.

In 2023, the technical advancement in the camera set was Samsung’s main move to strengthen itself in the luxury smartphone market, where consumers are more demanding with image and video quality.

This year, Samsung brought the titanium finish to the S24 Ultra, adopted by the iPhone 15 Pro Max last year.

The new cell phones compete directly with the iPhones 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, launched by Apple in September 2023. The most expensive version of the iPhone, with 1TB of memory, costs R$13,999 at Apple’s official store.

SAMSUNG LOST LEADERSHIP IN SALES VOLUME

Apple became the world’s largest cellphone producer in 2023, ending Samsung’s 12-year reign as the industry leader.

According to research group IDC, the iPhone maker was the only major cell phone manufacturer to record annual growth in units in 2023, reaching 234.6 million units, an increase of 3.7%. Samsung produced 226.6 million units.

This increase from Apple came in a year that was the worst in a decade for the smartphone market, with device shipments falling 3.2% to 1.17 billion units, IDC said.

In terms of revenue and profits, Apple has long been the largest smartphone maker thanks to the iPhone’s dominance in the high-end segment of the market. But last year was the first in which it also led in the number of cell phones produced.

Samsung, which is preparing to launch its Galaxy S24 flagship model this week, reported a 13.6% drop in shipments last year as Huawei regained share in China and makers of cheaper Android phones reported higher growth. strong.

In particular, Chinese manufacturer Transsion — whose Tecno, Infinix and itel brands have made it the dominant smartphone company in Africa — grew 30.8% last year, putting it in the top five behind Xiaomi and Oppo.
