Sales of new vehicles in January grow compared to 2022, says Fenabrave – 02/02/2023 – Market

Licensing of cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks and new buses in January totaled 142.8 thousand units, up 13% in the annual comparison, but down 34.1% compared to December, according to data released this Thursday (2 ) by the association of concessionaires, Fenabrave.

All segments showed significant declines compared to December, a month that usually registers strong registrations, but which had been impacted last year by collective vacations by automakers and by the World Cup, which reduced the flow of customers in stores and licensing days.

While sales of cars, pickups, sport utility vehicles and commercial vans fell 35.5% compared to December, registrations for trucks dropped 15.3% and those for buses showed a drop of 19.7% in the same comparison.

The president of Fenabrave, José Maurício Andreta Júnior, stated that, in relation to January 2022, comparisons are impaired.

“We have to remember that, in January 2022, the sector recorded the worst result for the month since 2017, as dealership stocks were low, due to the global supply crisis, in addition to being a period in which the variant Omicron of Covid-19 caused great concern in the population”, he said.

In comparison with December, the executive commented that last month’s result “is not very far from the average recorded in January of the previous five years”.
