Roblox tries to expand audience over 17, says founder – 05/18/2023 – Tech

The game known for winning over children Roblox wants to attract young adults, according to an article signed by the founder and chief executive of the company, David Baszucki. He stated on Twitter that he wants to build a platform “for all ages”.

The text published on the Roblox blog, however, highlights the audience between 17 and 24 years old. This age group represents 22% of the game’s user base —an open universe that allows the creation of other games and virtual experiences.

This group of young adults still sees annual growth among Roblox players of 35%, the highest of any age group in the game, according to the publication.

“Our users age with us. More than 55% of our users are over 13,” says the chief executive’s article. He developed the game 19 years ago.

Baszucki’s article implies that the platform intends to allow the creation of spaces dedicated to users over 17 years old. Today, Roblox lets you develop games and experiences suitable for all ages, for people aged 9+ and 13+.

“Our goal is for Roblox to have experiences that are appropriate for all stages of life,” said Baszucki. This would include not only the virtual events already in place like concerts and digital fashion, but also virtual dating, alternative film screenings and news circulation.

Roblox has an age verification application under test to allow users to access suitable and safe environments. The feature asks for access to a valid document and a selfie.

The number of Roblox users grew 22% in 2022 and reached 66.1 million people active daily, according to a balance sheet released on the last 10th. The game, even so, lost US$ 268.3 million last year.
