The governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro (PL-RJ), said this Tuesday morning (9) that the capital of Rio de Janeiro will host the summit meeting of the G20, the group of twenty largest economies in the world, in 2024. it will take place in November under the rotating presidency of Brazil in the bloc.

According to Cláudio Castro, the meeting will be attended by the twenty nations that make up the G20 and another ten guests. “All of this is being possible, thanks to the efforts and efforts we are making to promote Rio de Janeiro to the world. This meeting is a milestone in our history,” he said in a post on twitter.

The mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes (PSD), also celebrated the confirmation of the summit, praising President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). “I told them that the man liked it and would do anything to help Rio! It’s there! Thanks Lula”, posted in the same network.

The G20 was created in 1999 and is formed by economy ministers and central bank governors from 19 countries and the European Union, which represent around 80% of world trade. In addition to Brazil, the countries of the Brics (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), United States, Mexico, among others, also participate.

The bloc is currently chaired by India. Brazil will preside over the bloc as of December.
