There are R$32 million in investments to conserve, revitalize and reclassify the monument built in the 18th century.

One of the most important monuments in the history of Amapá, the Fortress of São José will be completely revitalized, enhancing the national and international importance of the fortification built in the 18th century. The State Government and the Pro-Culture and Arts Promotion Association (APPA) organized the monument’s conservation, revitalization and requalification project.
Investment in interventions is R$32 million, R$27 million of which from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES). Another R$5 million is the State’s counterpart and has already been invested in revitalization works, with emphasis on waterproofing the casemates. Works are foreseen from the recovery of the structures and constructions of the Fortress to the adaptation of spaces to attract enterprises such as restaurants, in addition to the revitalization of the landscaping. The execution period is 36 months.
Preservation
The work was carried out for two years by specialist technicians from the State Government and had the support of partners such as the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (Iphan) and the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae).
