Caixin, South China Morning Post, China Daily and others were held back as they reported data showing the country’s industry “continues to improve” and “returns to growth”.
Already in the Western Bloomberg and Financial Times the headline was, “Chinese industrial activity expands at the fastest pace in more than a decade”, in a “strong recovery” that would have left even “Chinese leaders surprised”.
Reuters went further, with the dispatch “China’s industrial activity shocks”, saying it “crushed expectations” with a “big surprise” that, according to analysts it heard, could raise projections for the year in the country.
More specifically, warns Bloomberg, the jump in industrial production may reduce the post-pandemic stimulus expected from Beijing, to be announced at the plenary sessions of the National People’s Congress that begin on Sunday.
The same Reuters points out in a parallel report that, while “China’s factories are pushing ahead, the US and Europe are facing stubborn inflation” and industrial contraction, problems that advance by American allies in Asia.
Also in the agency, “Exclusive: US seeks support from allies for possible sanctions on China”, after weeks of rhetorical escalation against Beijing, including TV interviews, with accusations of all kinds —as portrayed by Global Timesabove.
The pressure on allies, for actions against Beijing, also reached the US industrial policy, with FT and others publishing that the Taiwanese TSMC and the South Korean Samsung, in exchange for an incentive, would have to spend ten years without expanding in China.
PCC & PT
The home page of Renmin Ribao (People’s Daily) and the nightly newscast of CCTV (above), China’s largest network, reported the meeting of the director of the International Relations Commission and member of the CP’s executive committee, Wang Yi, with the secretary of international relations and member of the PT executive, Romanio Pereira.
Wang said they are two countries “with global impact” and that China views the relationship “from a strategic perspective”.
