Restaurant wants app for collectors to schedule and pick up material – 06/22/2023 – Market

Abrasel, which represents the bar and restaurant sector, plans to create an application for booking appointments so that collectors can go to establishments to collect recyclable materials. The initiative, which is scheduled for next year, is part of the third stage of a campaign launched by the entity this month together with Ancat (association of collectors).

According to the president of Abrasel, Paulo Solmucci, the objective is to integrate the collectors into the sector’s production chain and make the circular economy viable.

“This is a step that should only happen next year. We want to have a software partner so that the collector can have a message on his cell phone saying the time at which the restaurant can receive the visit. And the restaurant, already knowing him, you know what kind of product he is interested in”, he says.

Not all workers will be able to use the application, he says, and therefore agreements on what time and what to separate can be done in person.

Roberto Rocha, president of Ancat, says that the application will offer more traceability for the industry’s inputs. “Today, for example, we collect a lot of glass and, often, the brewery or other types of bottles do not know that we are collecting their material and disposing of it correctly.”

Companies of any size can participate in the campaign, according to Solmucci. He says that, until now, some large companies, such as PicPay, Ticket and Coca-Cola Brasil, will join and help, at this first moment, to pass on the initiative.

The first two stages, which take place this year, seek to give visibility to the collectors and welcome them, with water and access to a bathroom, for example.

Abrasel’s expectation is that at least 50,000 restaurants across the country will participate. The association says it is directing its regional representatives to get in touch with waste picker leaders.
