+RespirAR: program helps Covid-19 patients recover quality of life in Manaus

The government program has a total of 10 service centers spread across the capital of Amazonas

Manaus (AM) – An international benchmark, +RespirAR allows patients with sequelae from Covid-19 to regain their quality of life. Launched by the Government of Amazonas and coordinated by the Amazonas de Alto Rendimento Foundation (Faar), the program has changed the lives of patients, or those who have suffered orthopedic disorders, and also works on rehabilitation for mild neurological issues.

“Thanks to Governor Wilson Lima, today, +RespirAR is a State Program, recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). We are working to develop our state through public policies to always offer the best services to society”, declared the CEO of Faar, Jorge Oliveira.

After 5 months of treatment at the +RespirAR center at the Centro de Convivência da Família Magdalena Arce Daou, patient Dayse Maria de Freitas, who has spastic cerebral palsy, proudly tells of the importance of the program for her rehabilitation in body and mind.

“Since the beginning of my treatment, I have been well attended and welcomed by all the professionals. Today, I have more strength in my body and balance due to the physiotherapy treatment, in addition, I made new friends, I can relate better and the whole process helps me emotionally too”, commented Dayse Maria, 54 years old.

After a femur fracture in a traffic accident, David da Silva arrived at the program with many difficulties in carrying out motor activities and daily tasks. Referring to physiotherapy, the patient talks about recovery through treatment.

“I got here and I couldn’t walk straight or bend my knee, now I’m back to doing all these activities, I’m almost running, working and doing my jobs. +RespirAR changed my life”, said David da Silva.

Started in the Olympic Village of Manaus, the government program currently has a total of 10 service centers spread across the capital of Amazonas.

“The main purpose of +RespirAR, created by the State Government, is to bring more quality of life to patients. Here at Magdalena we receive several diagnoses and our work through physiotherapy and physical education is to make these people able to carry out their daily activities, have more confidence in their abilities and functionalities”, emphasized physiotherapist Karolayne Souto.
