Public health in Manaus carried out 2.5 million basic services in 2022

Manaus (AM) – The Primary Health Care Network carried out more than 2.5 million individual consultations in 2022. Recently, the city was ranked best for the fourth time in the ranking of capitals by “Previne Brasil”, a national program that measures the quality of health services offered to the population and serves as a parameter for the financing of municipal actions, becoming a national highlight in Primary Health Care.

The modality of services to the female population was the one that recorded the highest number of visits: there were 1.73 million health services provided to this segment.

When compared to 2021 records, the increase is 4.4%. In the male segment, there were 789 thousand attendances.

Another work front of the Municipal Health Secretariat (Semsa) that gained visibility was the individual registration, an action that allows the formulation of an information base to identify the demands of the population residing in the vicinity of the Basic Health Units (UBSs). This instrument is essential for planning health services and monitoring users.

The registration action, which is carried out by the Family Health Strategy teams, showed an increase of 17.1% with 1.73 million records. In the year 2021, that number was 1.480 million.

“Each registration made represents progress in primary care coverage, which in Manaus is at 73% according to the Ministry of Health (MS), which means a positive scenario. To arrive at this percentage, MS takes into account the number of health teams in a given territory and the number of records linked to these teams. The higher the number, the greater the coverage.

Consultations

In the category of consultations by health professionals (nurses, doctors and dentists), Semsa Manaus showed growth in consultations with nurses. There were more than 1 million, actions that represent 13% more than those carried out in the previous year, when there were 932 thousand consultations.

Another good performance was in the area of ​​oral health, with a 55% increase in the number of consultations with dentists compared to the previous year, making a total of more than 180,000 consultations.

priority groups

Pregnant women, children from 0 to 5 years old, elderly people aged 60 years or more and people with arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus make up the priority groups in primary care. On this work front, health services aimed at hypertensive and diabetic patients revealed an increase of 33% and 37%, respectively, in 2022. There were 367,225 actions aimed at people with hypertension and another 222,000 at people with diabetes.

Data related to children from 0 to 5 years old and the elderly, one of the priorities of Manaus City Hall, are also encouraging with an increase in 15% of attendances in these two segments.

Care for children totaled 227,181 in 2022. The good performance is also repeated with regard to the elderly: in one year, Semsa Manaus reached the mark of 429,595 assistances, almost 35,800 monthly actions benefiting the elderly.

For the director of Semsa’s Data Intelligence Department, Sanay Pedrosa, the numbers reflect the positive balance of all services offered in the Primary Care Network and demonstrate that the installed capacity, qualification of servers, insertion of new technological tools, among others actions, were initiatives that were well taken advantage of, which led to advances.

“Caring for hypertensive and diabetic people and children aged 0 to 5 years, which are priority groups, is an example that we are advancing in our coverage of services, expanding access. The population is being served. Our numbers are very positive and show that the population is seeking services and is being assisted. We closed 2022 with a very positive balance”, emphasizes Sanay.

Home visit

Home visits, which are strategies to promote equity in access to health services, were also an important gain in Semsa’s management with 1.05 million actions, an increase of 7%, with more than 83 thousand visits per month.

The modality of home care, aimed at people with limited mobility and who need special care, registered an increase of 2% with 39,672 actions carried out.
