Project aims to create a Technological Park in the Amazon

Manaus (AM) – The Manaus Free Trade Zone Superintendence (Suframa) was recently visited by three professors from the State University of Amazonas (UEA) to present a project on the advantages of installing a technology park in Amazonas, as well as requesting support from the superintendence in implementing the initiative.

During the meeting with the deputy superintendent of Development and Technological Innovation at Suframa (SDI), substitute, Leopoldo Montenegro, professors Raimundo Correa de Oliveira, Antônio Cláudio Kieling and Ricardo da Silva Barboza detailed the feasibility of creating a technological park, defined as: an industrial production complex and scientific-technological based services whose production is based on technological research developed in Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) centers.

The enterprise conceived to operate, initially, at the UEA Superior School of Technology, is an initiative that seeks to boost innovation in Manaus and surroundings, stimulating the tripod “company, academia and government”. The project is being edited and open to receive investments.

The teachers emphasized that the creation of Technology Parks is prescribed in the Law of Technological Innovation (Law 10.973/2004 and regulated by Decree 9.283, of 2018) and constituted an opportunity to unite the elements of the triple helix in the same environment.

The triple helix is ​​an innovation model in which the university, industry and government, as primary institutional spheres, interact to promote development through innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition, the technology park will serve to house incubators, accelerators and companies dedicated to the development of priority line products, in addition to creating new technology-based companies that are competitive in the national and international market, and also encourage technology transfer.

The deputy superintendent emphasized that Suframa will always support and contribute to initiatives designed to promote a culture of innovation and competitiveness, as well as to enable an increase in the production of wealth in the region.

“We understand a technology park as a specialized and cooperative environment that promotes and fosters a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, in addition to boosting scientific and technological development, attracting and diversifying new activities and generating new business”,

explained Montenegro.
