Programming of the 21st National Week of Museums

Manaus (AM) – From this Monday (15th) until May 21st, the 21st National Week of Museums will take place and, in Manaus, free activities will take place in eight cultural spaces in the central area of ​​the city. During the week there will be lectures, conversation circles and workshops focused on culturally relevant themes. The realization is of the State Government, through the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy.

National Museum Week takes place every year, marking International Museum Day, celebrated on May 18. The day of events is promoted by the National Institute of Museums (IBRAM) and has the purpose of mobilizing the country’s museums to discuss necessary subjects in a joint program.

In this edition, the theme “Museums, Sustainability and Well-Being” will be addressed, with the aim of reflecting on the importance of spaces in promoting mental health, environmental education and social inclusion.

According to the Secretary of Culture, Marcos Apolo Muniz, the museum appreciation week rescues the history of each state and, therefore, needs to be remembered with a program that encourages public participation.

“Every year, the National Week of Museums is celebrated with free events and, in this edition, it brings a theme that addresses not only culture, but also social inclusion, democratizing spaces and allowing access to all”, says the secretary .

Main cultural totem of the state, Teatro Amazonas, which in addition to being an opera house and shows also serves as a museum with its centenary building, participates in the commemorative week with a special program.

Between May 16th and 21st, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, the exhibition “The History of the Teatro Amazonas” will be open, with information about its construction, causing social impact and raising awareness about the preservation of historical heritage. Also on the 16th, from 3:15 pm to 4 pm, the performance “Teatro das Sensações” will take place, which will take the public in a multisensory immersion directly into the 19th century.

On May 18, from 9:00 am to 9:45 am, visitors will be able to take a guided tour behind the scenes of Teatro Amazonas, getting to know the technical part of the monument. Finally, the program at the venue ends with the puppet opera “O Navio Fantasma”. The show, performed by the group “O Pequeno Teatro do Mundo”, will take place on May 21, from 11 am to 12 pm.
