Professor launches children’s book with stories told in the interior of the Amazon

Book brings together stories told in the interior of the State of Amazonas, present in the popular imagination

Manaus (AM) – On the holiday, May 1st, Worker’s Day, Professor João Cruz launches the children’s book entitled, “Histórias contadas e retodas”, by Editora Valer, at Livraria Leitura, located in Amazonas Shopping, at 4 pm.

In the work, there are stories told in the interior of the State of Amazonas, which are part of the emerging imaginary of exuberant forests and waters, which cut the immense lands of the region. They are well kept, however, always available for young people and adults to read and learn about the unique way in which caboclos see the world.

For Valer’s editorial coordinator, Neiza Teixeira, this release adds to the publisher’s catalog yet another work that adds to the formation of young Amazonian readers, who seek or will come into contact for the first time with this universe of stories told in the interior of the Amazon .

“The launch of a book is very important, both for its author and for the publisher. Professor João Cruz, who worked as a teacher for many years as a teacher of Portuguese Language and Literature, makes his contribution to the education of young Amazonians through this book, which, in turn, brings together stories told in his region – the Mundurucania. It is a very important work, because it immortalizes stories that come from oral language, whose tendency is to disappear”,

For the author, the work ‘Stories told and retold’ is a proposal to rescue values, expressed through rich imagery, creator of fantastic places, with characters who became living beings capable of influencing the life of the caboclo.

“The work is also a rescue of legendary value, since listening to and/or reading stories is like entering an enchanting world, full of disquieting, curious and fun mysteries and surprises. However, it is of great importance to understand the caboclo imaginary, which constitutes an indispensable wealth for the formation of this people and its tradition”,

said the teacher.

The book was presented by UEA professor Fátima Souza, who is a doctoral candidate in Applied Linguistics at Unicamp. She pointed out that this new book by João Cruz presents, then, Stories told and retold, as the title itself indicates.

“His authorship consists of gathering twelve stories heard from others, which we know are the fruit of his spectacular imagination, built in a city by the river, made up of many fables.”

The teacher goes on to explain that João Cruz indicates there a geographical space that teaches us a lot in the 21st century: “that old place of listening, where the narratives were passed from mouth to mouth, whenever there was a good circle, from generation to generation. He goes even further, translating this orality into other spaces, especially the classroom, which he occupies so well, like the teacher, reader and writer that he is.”.

Who is the author?

Born in Maués, in the interior of Amazonas, in 1956. Professor João Cruz, graduated in Letters – Portuguese Language, from Uninorte. He specializes in Language Teaching Methodology and its Literatures, from the State University of Amazonas. He is a professor at the State Secretariat for Education and Teaching Quality, where he teaches Grammar and Literature.
