Production of mallow seeds receives investment of R$ 1.8 million in AM

The resource will be implemented for the production of mallow seeds, in Manacapuru, for distribution to municipalities with potential in the production of vegetable fibers

The Government of Amazonas transferred, on Tuesday (11), R$ 1.8 million in financial resources to the Agricultural Cooperative of Fishermen of the Mesoregion of Amazonas (Coopeixe). The investment will be made to make the mallow seed production development project viable in the municipality of Manacapuru.

According to the head of Sepror, Petrucio Magalhães Júnior, the development of mallow seeds that will be produced on terra firme, in Manacapuru, seeks to make the Amazon self-sufficient in the production of vegetable fiber seeds.

“The resource of around R$ 1.8 million for the production of vegetable fiber seeds is a great achievement to leverage the jute and mallow activity for our riverside people who, historically, depended on the production of seeds in the state of Pará” , he said.

The transfer took place at the headquarters of the Sepror System, located in the Japiim neighborhood, through a development term signed by the head of Sepror, Petrucio Magalhães Júnior; the president of Coopeixe, Donizete Pinheiro; and the author of the amendment, state deputy Sinésio Campos.

The vegetable fiber seeds produced in Manacapuru will be destined to municipalities with productive potential in the activity. The president of Coopeixe, Donizete Pinheiro, says that around four hectares are already being produced, and with the funds invested, another 10 hectares will be implanted for the development of mallow seeds.

“We will seek to meet this demand within the state. What is happening here is unprecedented, a challenge. Let’s put it into practice for about 7 months later, these seeds are being destined for municipalities”, says Donizete.
