Procon Porto Alegre publishes research on prices of school supplies

Procon Porto Alegre released this Monday (16th), the first price survey of the most requested basic items in schools’ lists of school supplies. The municipal body consulted the values of 33 products in four specialized establishments on the 10th and 11th of January.
“The survey seeks to help the consumer who is researching prices at this time before back to school”, said the director of Procon Municipal, Alexandre Appel. The survey provides information on differences in values found in bookstores in the Capital.
Anyone looking for modeling clay, a box of six units, will find values between R$ 3.49 and R$ 4.95%, a difference of 42%. In the case of simple school scissors, the variation is even greater: 192% between the lowest price (R$ 1.50) and the highest (R$ 4.39%).
Usually the cheapest items in the school basket, pencils and pens also have variations. The ballpoint pen with a thick tip is sold between R$0.69 and R$1.60, a difference of 239%. A box of colored pencils, with 12 units, can be found at R$ 4.49, the lowest value, up to R$ 7.90, a variation of 176%. Access the survey data here.
