Private managers want to take care of Fies money – 06/11/2023 – Panel SA

Big businessmen are trying to convince the Lula government to allow their investment boutiques to manage Fies (Student Financing Fund) money.
Abilio Diniz’s asset manager and Oliver Mizne’s Pravaler group have signaled interest, say people linked to the working group led by the Ministry of Education to define the new rules for the program aimed at higher education.
Government wings in the portfolio claim that there is no chance of this election succeeding given the volume of funds administered and the national scope of the program.
According to government reports, education groups expect the government to evaluate the opening of Fies’ financial management to the private sector as a way to boost the program.
The intention is similar to that of private banks, which always try to break Caixa Econômica Federal’s monopoly in managing the FGTS. Caixa is also the Fies operating agent.
Abilio owns 6% of the Anima network, a private higher education educational organization that owns São Judas Tadeu University and Anhembi-Morumbi. Península is the manager that takes care of the investments of the businessman and his family.
Mizne, co-founder of Geo Capital, created Pravaler, which offers credit to students to finance higher education.
None of them, however, has formalized a proposal so far.
When consulted, Península, manager of the Diniz family, denied interest. Pravaler did not respond as of this writing.
