The yellow “Cloud” guitar, named for its unique twisted body, was valued at between $60,000 and $80,000, according to Julien. Last year, the auction house sold another Cloud guitar for $700,000. “Clouds” were created for Prince by Minneapolis luthier Dave Rusan, including the one used in the 1984 film “Purple Rain”, where Prince’s alter ego “The Kid” is given it as a gift by his girlfriend Apollonia. The auction, which raised $2 million, included dozens of items by Prince, known for his unique and flamboyant style. Prince died aged 57 in April 2016 at his Paisley Park studio from an accidental dose of potent painkillers.
