Popular car: movement in stores still does not reflect sales – 06/21/2023 – Market

The incentive measures adopted by the government are still not reflected in car licensing. According to data from Renavam (National Register of Motor Vehicles), the average until Monday (19) is 6,285 units sold per day.

The number, which includes light and heavy vehicles, indicates a decrease of 20.4% compared to the same period in May. By highlighting only passenger cars, the segment in which the lower value models are located, the result is worse: a drop of 24.2%, with 4,327 registrations.

The companies, however, have registered good movement in the concessionaires. This weekend, the volume of resources requested by automakers reached R$ 320 million. As a result, 64% of the total tax credits granted for the application of consumer discounts in this modality have already been consumed.

The explanations for this mismatch between the data are the absence of rental companies –which still do not have access to promotions– and the time required between the sale and the conclusion of the car documents.

Initially, the provisional measure signed on June 5 provided that consumers would have 15 days of exclusive access to the most favorable conditions. This deadline, which ended on Tuesday (20), was extended for another 15 days.

With this, the numbers should remain at low levels, as they are concentrated only in retail – which is where automakers obtain the best profit margins.

The growth will only be noticed when Fenabrave (an association that brings together vehicle distributors) publishes the registrations separated by “individuals” and “legal entities”. The June results will be known at the beginning of next month.

In the accumulated between January and May, the commercialization of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles through direct sales reached 47.2% of the total. This participation should have a sharp drop due to the rules established by the government, which still prevent rental companies from accessing discounts.

These companies, however, continue to have a strong influence on sales, as shown by the licensing ranking.

Fiat Strada is still in the lead, according to figures for the first half of June. 3,671 units of the compact pickup were sold in that period, according to consultancy Jato Dynamics. A large part refers to negotiations carried out in May, but whose licensing only came out the following month.

In the accumulated result for the year, there are 41,500 registrations of the model. Of these, 68.2% were negotiated through direct sales.

The most affordable models are far from the top positions. For now, Fiat Mobi occupies the 29th position in the first two weeks of June, with 784 units sold. The Renault Kwid appears in 42nd place in the ranking: 458 licenses, according to Jato. Both cost from BRL 58,990 with government incentives.
