Polyclínica Codajás performs another round of HPV tests for LGBTQIAP+ public

In addition to the exams, gynecological consultations and dental health procedures were also carried out.

The Codajás Polyclinic, health unit of the State Health Secretariat (SES-AM), carried out on Friday (26), another edition of the Transellus Research, with exams to identify Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and vaginal microbiota flora, specifically for trans men, non-binary individuals, gay and bisexual women. The initiative was carried out in partnership with the University of the State of Amazonas (UEA) at the Polyclinic clinic, located at Avenida Codajás, 26, in Cachoeirinha, in the south zone of the capital.

The consultations were carried out at the Unit’s Diversity and Gender Outpatient Clinic, which offers extra health examinations for users. In addition to the exams, gynecological consultations and dental health procedures were also carried out.

The director of Policlínica Codajás, Ráiner Figueiredo, emphasizes that the unit provides specialists and inputs to contribute to the best service to the user of the Unified Health System (SUS).

“We’ve been carrying out the survey for a few months, and anything that adds more health to the community is always welcome. Our biggest concern is the well-being of all and with all our professional team it is possible to have a humanized SUS”,

he said.

There will be three more editions of the survey in the unit, one per month. At the end of the research, the objective is to identify the prevalence of the HPV virus in the population served for internal research and, based on the collected data, generate future public health policies for this category.

Yuri Cavalcante, is a transsexual man and has been attending the outpatient clinic for five years, where he performs consultations and exams. He says that he found out about the research via the social network and decided to take advantage of it and collect another health record, of many exams, which he keeps in a folder bound by him.

“I am well organized with my exams and I have them saved since 2018, so this care here today serves my emotional life and is a great stimulus for our community, something very special. Any exam is valid for our health. This is very important”,

The coordinator of the Outpatient Clinic for Diversity and Gender at Policlínica Codajás, gynecologist Dária Neves, emphasizes the importance of testing for HPV to prevent cervical cancer.

“These people having access to this exam is wonderful. We are going to continue the research until we conclude the total number of these samples, which are 200, so we are going to publish publications on the subject to create more public policies”,

With five years of existence, the Sexual Diversity and Gender Outpatient Clinic of Policlínica Codajás already has around 600 registered users, who have monthly consultations and exams with a multidisciplinary team.
