President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) promised this Tuesday (27) that all the next editions of the Crop Plan will be better each year, after the announcement of a record amount for the 2023/2024 edition.

Lula also added that anyone who thinks that his government will treat agribusiness in an ideological manner is wrong, because of the proximity of the sector to his predecessor and rival Jair Bolsonaro (PL). He also added that a responsible government does not have the “smallness” to fan hatred.

“It’s our government’s first Crop Plan. And like the others, from 2003 to 2010, I’m not afraid to tell you that every year we’re going to make better plans than the previous year. I’m convinced of that,” he said. the agent.

The 2023/2024 Crop Plan will add R$ 364.22 billion to finance the agricultural activity of medium and large producers, a record amount, as anticipated by the Sheet. The announcement comes amid the government’s efforts to improve the relationship with agribusiness, a sector that was close to Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The president himself has given declarations along the lines that there is no economic disagreement between agribusiness and his government. However, he stated that there is an “ideological problem” in the sector with his management.

The Crop Plan, whose objective is to finance agricultural activity in Brazil, is seen as a password to try to improve the relationship with a segment that has driven economic growth at the beginning of the year.

The launch was held at an event at the Planalto Palace, where Lula was accompanied by at least 14 ministers. Among them, Fernando Haddad (Farm), Carlos Fávaro (Agriculture), Paulo Teixeira (Agrarian Development and Family Farming), Marina Silva (Environment) and Rui Costa (Civil Staff), in addition to the Vice President and Minister of Development and Industry , Geraldo Alckmin. According to the government, the part of the plan launched this Tuesday is 27% greater than that of the previous harvest (R$ 287.16 billion last year).

Interest rates for funding and marketing will be 8% per year for producers included in Pronamp (National Support Program for Medium Rural Producers). For the others, it will be 12% per annum.

Lula took the opportunity to criticize the European Union, which has been placing new environmental demands as a condition for ratifying the agreement with Mercosur. He cited the approval by the French parliament of a resolution against the ratification of the deal, because of the environmental damage.

The Brazilian president then raised the tone against the Europeans, accusing them of failing to meet the targets set out in the Paris Accords on the environment.

“We have an obligation to do the right thing, because the world is watching us. You saw now that the French Congress approved that it will not want to make an agreement with Mercosur, because they think that Brazil will not be able to meet the goals of Paris,” said the representative.

Fávaro, in turn, made a tough speech against the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto.
