After going through the recycling process, the piles of wristbands used at Coldplay’s 11 concerts across Brazil can be transformed into pigments for fireworks, ceramic floors, glass, paints and other inputs, according to Green Eletron, reverse logistics manager for electronics, and Boomerang Soluções Ambientais, which collect the material.
According to the companies, there are more than 5 tons of the product, which need to undergo a transformation process into raw materials such as salts, oxides and metallic zinc.
Delivered to each fan at the entrance to the show, the bracelets became a symbol in the British band’s presentations. There was even controversy surrounding the objects, as Brazilian cities were behind Buenos Aires, Santiago and Bogotá in the ranking of item returns.
The LED wristbands are powered by common batteries, like those in the remote control, and can last up to four shows.
Boomerang also claims to have recovered 12,000 kg of organic waste, 79,000 kg of recyclables, 10,000 kg of wood, 151 liters of oil and 18 kg of fabrics. In total, more than 106 tons of recyclable material were collected.
