Petrobras interrupts the process of selling the fertilizer unit in MS

Petrobras reported on Tuesday night (24) that it had interrupted the sale process of the fertilizer factory located in Três Lagoas, in Mato Grosso do Sul. In a statement, Petrobras states that the decision is part of its new strategic plan.

“Petrobras, continuing the statement released on 08/29/2022, informs that, in compliance with the applicable internal governance, the closing of the competitive process, which was in the binding phase, for the full sale of the Nitrogenated Fertilizantes Unit III (UFN) was approved. -III)”, says the company. In December, Petrobras also ended the sale of the fertilizer factory in Araucária.

Petrobras also informed that it will evaluate the next steps related to the sale of the unit, in line with the current Strategic Plan 2023-2027, and reinforced its commitment to the broad transparency of its divestment projects and portfolio management. Last week, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Carlos Fávaro, stated that Petrobras should resume construction of three fertilizer factories in the country.

Factory was even negotiated with a Russian group

UFN-III is a Petrobras nitrogen fertilizer industrial unit located in Três Lagoas, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The construction of UFN-III began in September 2011, but was interrupted in December 2014, with about 81% of the work completed. Once completed, the unit will have a projected urea and ammonia production capacity of 3,600 t/day and 2,200 t/day, respectively.

In February last year, Petrobras even announced the sale of the unit to the Russian group Acron. Subsequently, the process ended up not being completed. At the time, Petrobras stated that the business plan proposed by the potential Russian buyer, replacing the original project, prevented certain government approvals that were necessary for the continuity of the transaction.
