Peruvian group opens programming for the 17th Amazon Theater Festival

Yuyachkani presents the show “No me toquen ese valse” on October 7th, at Teatro da Instacção
Manaus (AM) – On October 7th, the Yuyachkani Cultural Group, from Peru, makes its first performance in Manaus, with “No me toquen esse valse”. The show opens the program of the 17th Amazon Theater Festival (FTA), at 7pm, at Teatro da Instacção (Rua Frei José dos Inocentes, Centro), with free access.
According to the president of the Amazonas Theater Federation (Fetam), Cleber Ferreira, the festival has always aimed to promote exchange between the people of the Amazon through arts and theater. He reinforces that these people extend across Brazil and some Latin American countries.
“Our intention is for the FTA to unite these theaters and, in this edition, this unity will be expressed in the presence of one of the most important theater groups in Latin America and Peru, the Grupo Cultural Yuyachkani”,
says the head of the federation.
The president of Fetam explains that Yuyachkani is a Quechua word, which means “I am thinking or I am remembering”. He highlights that the Peruvian group has more than 50 years of uninterrupted work, of political theater, which dialogues with major issues and with playwrights such as Augusto Boal and his Theater of the Oppressed.
“We will have the honor of hosting the show ‘No me toquen ese valse’, which will bring to Manaus and the FTA the most exquisite in collective, political work, in group theater that resists the ravages of time and in strengthens us to continue doing theater and uniting this theater in the Amazon”, comments Cleber Ferreira. “We will also enjoy a workshop with Yuyachkani, which will bring more than 50 years of performing experiences to the artists participating in the festival”,

The event is made possible by the Federal Culture Incentive Law – Rouanet Law, via the Ministry of Culture, presented by Nubank and organized by the Amazonas Theater Federation (Fetam), with support from Weg and the Government of Amazonas, through the Secretariat of State of Culture and Creative Economy.
The Amazon Theater Festival features 30 shows in this year’s program, 15 in the Jurupari show, 10 in the Ednelza Sahdo show and five invited works, in addition to a dramaturgy competition, conversation circles, workshops, experiences on the outskirts and a mediation project.
