Pepita celebrates Women’s Day: ‘I’m very proud’

The funk artist Pepita used social networks to celebrate Women’s Day, this Wednesday.

— Hi family, good morning. Today is the 8th International Women’s Day. I am very proud to be the woman that I am. The daughter that I am. The friend that I am. The professional that I am. The mother that I am. The human being that I am. I live in a country surrounded by prejudices on all sides, but I try and wish to always be strong and evolved. May this 8th be very important for me and for you, too, in any way you want. Only you know the woman you are and what you represent – said the funk singer.

Pepita is the mother of little Lucca Antônio, 1 year old. The baby is the result of a relationship between her husband Kayque Nogueira and another woman, while they were both separated. At the time, the biological mother intended to have an abortion. By mutual agreement, Pepita did not authorize the fact and officially assumed the child’s maternity.

“Motherhood was the most wonderful thing that ever happened to me. And I see everyone’s acceptance, more and more. I feel like I was the first to drill a hole in the wall. Deep down, I think the world didn’t need to be like that. I didn’t even need to be talking about it. But I insist on talking, because I know that this subject needs to be hammered out to make it natural – said Pepita to Extra, when parading in Sapucaí this year through Grande Rio.

When her motherhood became public, Pepita suffered numerous attacks for being a transvestite woman. In November last year, when his son turned 11 months old, hate mail was directed at him. “The child’s first word will be: ‘I should have died,'” read one of the attacks. “This will never be a real family,” commented another netizen. “My son would never study in a school with this child,” shot a third.

At the time, Pepita spoke out. “My son is just an 11-month-old, guys, it hurts me so much, so much,” she vented on a social network.
