Paulo Lima, the Fighting Rooster, a leader among delivery drivers, said on Saturday (30) on the social network X, the former Twitter, that he stole deliveries when the purchase price exceeded R$500. desaforo” to deliver a meal that cost the same as a purchase that, for his family, would last the entire month.

Following publications, Galo reported that, one day without having anything to eat, he was called to pick up an order worth R$750 from an Italian canteen. The meal, which was supposed to be delivered to Moema, a neighborhood in the south of São Paulo, never reached its destination.

“That day, I fell off my motorcycle and went to heal with my family,” he wrote. “I remember biting into the filet and thinking ‘I can’t even chew them.'” This Sunday morning (31), she returned to the subject. “I woke up thinking and I actually made a mistake. The right one would be Filet Mignon!”

Galo also cited the case of influencer Felipe Neto, who reported on the same social network problems with an order for R$1,129, placed on December 25th and which was not delivered. Afterwards, Felipe said that the restaurant claimed there had been an error in the delivery app, as the establishment was closed.

“The right is angry with Felipe Neto who ordered 1 and 200 of food and is angry with me because I ate a meal costing 750 reais one day”, he wrote. “There are some PT members who are a bit angry too! That filet mignon was delicious! No regrets!”

Galo’s report was criticized on the left and right, and also in groups of delivery people on messaging applications. There were also those who defended him and those who saw, in the report, a strategy aligned with the activist’s ambitions of running as a candidate for the City Council in 2024.

Paulo Galo is running a money-raising campaign. According to him, since he started giving interviews and acting as an activist for labor rights for delivery drivers, he has been blocked on the apps and can no longer work with deliveries.

He was one of the leaders behind Breque dos Apps, a demonstration carried out by several groups of delivery people during the Covid-19 pandemic, a period in which delivery work gained more attention, both due to the increase in workers who sought this type of occupation, and due to the increase in demand, following social isolation recommendations.

In reports made on Saturday on X, Galo did not say which applications he worked for when the thefts occurred, nor when.

iFood, which dominates the meal delivery segment, says that any failure to comply with the application’s rules for use may result in a ban.

“In the case of delivery drivers, deactivations occur when we receive complaints and have evidence of non-compliance with the rules accepted by them when they register on iFood: loss of orders, payment fraud, transfer or rental of the account to third parties and misuse of the platform”, stated the app, in a note.

For lost orders, the application says that, when there is proof that the meal or purchase was not delivered, the delivery person is blocked and the purchase amount is refunded to the customer.

For orders made through the app, however, delivery is not always from iFood. The application says that around 65% of deliveries are the responsibility of the establishments — in these cases, the company only works as a bridge for orders.
