Manaus (AM) – Known by names such as anaconda, the anaconda, a species of Amazonian snake that inspires great stories, will have one of the largest scenes in the Amazonino Mendes park. The Manaus City Hall structure is located between Isaías Vieiralves and Olívia de Menezes Vieiralves avenues, in the East and North zones. In the scenic and interactive park, the large snake will be six meters high and 30 meters long, making it one of the largest animal sculptures in the reptile scene.
Next week, the artists who make the sculptures of the park’s animals will work on the scene of the main snake in the scene. Currently, workers and artists work on the structure’s roughcast, which is one of the phases of the techniques used to build the giant sculptures. Chapisco is a mortar made of cement and coarse sand to cover large animals.
As sculptor Stevan Gomes explains, roughcasting is the first phase of cement application, which will be followed by art finishes on the mass until detailed refinement of the skin, eyes, head, back, belly and fangs or teeth, in addition to the tail.
“After finishing the reptile scene, we will move on to the fish scene, in the wet area, which must be the most difficult of all, due to the detail and the large area of water mirrors and fountains. In the park, sculptures are produced and made rain or shine, on several fronts”,
explained Gomes.
The total area of the park covers 134 thousand square meters, with an architectural design by the Municipal Institute of Urban Planning (Implurb), expanding urbanity, leisure, sport and entertainment in the capital.
“The first stage of the park, already inaugurated, is a success. For us, who work on the project, which is still under construction in the second stage, it is a joy to be able to offer the population of the North and East zones the first urban linear park, where children, young people, the elderly and even pets live together in an appropriate space. And before, on that same stream bank, all you could see was a degraded area, unused and serving as a dump,” explained Implurb’s CEO, Carlos Valente.
Curiosity
Anacondas, also known as anacondas, belong to the genus Eunectes, which is part of the Boidae family, a group that also includes boas, salamantas and parakeets. This means that the popular name “anaconda” does not designate a single species, but rather a group of four species that inhabit South America (three of them live in Brazilian territory).
The sculptor explains that the snake being built in the park is the one that symbolizes the predominant species in the region and in the Amazon, and that it will have its closest representation, including in colors. “It has an ocher-yellow background color, with a moss green, with spots that look like those of a jaguar,” he added.
Alligators
In the alligator scenario, one of the most advanced, the cement modeling is completed, as well as the artistic modeling and finishing details. The giant iguana, the reptiles’ neighbor, is also ready for the next step, to start painting art. In this scenario, services for large and baby alligators are at 80% and snakes at 40%. In the jaguars, with the large, small, trunk and ramps, the work is 80% complete.

Among molded and sculpted iron, workers continue to execute the sets with various levels of completion and finishing. The construction will have themed interactive scenarios, with climbing ramps, slides, a wet area, among others. All figures linked to the forest will be handled as playful toys for children and interactive toys for adults.
Park
The park is the result of an agreement signed between Manaus City Hall and the State government, and is two kilometers long. The first stage of the space was delivered on Manaus’ anniversary, in October 2023. The third phase has a housing complex divided into three distinct blocks of five floors each, with parking spaces for cars and motorcycles. Tree-lined sidewalks and more playgrounds will be built between the blocks.
