Paraíba takes center stage with Cannabis museum and event – 04/19/2023 – Cannabis Inc.

Brazil will have a museum of cannabis. It opens its doors next Monday, the 24th, in a mansion from the last century, in the center of João Pessoa, capital of Paraíba. The site was set up with the aim of bringing together the history of the plant and the medicinal advances of recent years, which are leading to a paradigm shift.

The Brazilian Cannabis Museum opens with a series of portraits of people who made a difference in scientific development and in the fight for the right to treatment. Among them, the researcher Elisaldo Carlini, a pioneer in studies of the therapeutic potential of the plant in Brazil, who passed away just over two years ago. Physician and professor at the Federal University of Medicine of São Paulo, he is recognized for the first studies that prove the effectiveness of cannabis in controlling the symptoms of epilepsy.

There will also be, for example, a portrait of Anny Fischer, the first patient to obtain authorization from the Court to import CBD oil, in 2014, as this is the only medicine to stop seizures resulting from epilepsy.

Two years earlier, the girl was diagnosed with CDKL deficiency, a gene located on the X chromosome responsible for producing a protein that is essential for brain development.

On the second floor of the house, we intend to have two rooms with audiovisual productions”, says Cassiano Gomes, mentor of the museum, as well as director of Abrace Esperança and Unacam (National Union of Medicinal Cannabis Associations). “One of the rooms will be completely black. Upon entering, there will be smoke and gunfire. Then begins the presentation on the deaths and arrests resulting from the war on drugs.”

A second room, all white, according to Gomes, gathers testimonials from mothers of patients, who show how the cannabis medicinal has changed the lives of many families. R$ 80,000 was spent on setting up the museum.

The inauguration, however, is part of a larger event, the first Integration Week of Associations for Access to cannabis, which runs from April 24 to 29. “Brazil already has around 254 patient associations”, says Gomes. Only 11 have some kind of court authorization to operate.

Organized by Unacam, training courses on cultivation, legal, document registration and software management will be administered for five days. On Thursday (27), a marijuana march is scheduled, against the law that prohibits this type of manifestation. The rally leaves the Hotel Nord Luxxor Cabo Branco at 7:30 am.
