The desire to buy cheap and good products drives the second-hand products market
A survey carried out by OLX with 800 consumers pointed out that the Brazilian has, on average, R$ 2,113 in products that are not used at home. The survey was carried out in June and showed that 38% of respondents started advertising these items via e-commerce in the last five years. The information is from IstoÉ.
Objects in the “clothing, footwear and accessories” category were the most sold in the second quarter of this year, followed by household appliances and cell phones. The platform also pointed out that this market had an average of 24 sales per minute in the first half of the year.
For Marcos Leite, General Director of OLX Brasil, in addition to the extra income, Brazilians’ desire to buy cheap and good products makes the second-hand products market an increasingly viable option.
“Brazilians love saving and, more than that, they are filled with pride when they make a smart purchase. But a good purchase must be based on quality products”,
he said.
Organize space at home
The survey asked consumers the main reasons for them to try to sell personal items. Among those interviewed, 64% pointed out that they advertise used products so as not to have things lying around at home.
Among Generation Z, however, 67% pointed out that the biggest motivation for selling is the need for money. The generation that was born between the late 1990s and 2010 also showed more awareness of the circular economy. For 32% of this public, this is the main reason for buying and selling second-hand products, against 28% of consumers in general.
Half of the participants are aware that second-hand items can be useful to other people. Among those who sell and also buy through the platform, the price is the item that most attracts attention, with 72%.
Awareness campaign
The platform recently launched a campaign called Exigent Economizers that seeks to encourage Brazilians to buy and sell objects safely via the website and app.
