Nursing floor will be debated in the Chamber with ministers – 04/16/2023 – Panel SA

The imbroglio of the new floor of nursing, suspended in the STF (Federal Supreme Court), will be discussed this Tuesday (18) in a public hearing in the Chamber of Deputies.

The Minister of Health Nísia Trindade, Fernando Haddad (Finance), Rui Costa (Casa Civil) and Simone Tebet (Planning) were invited to the debate. The presence of representatives of the Federal Council of Nursing and associations of public and private hospitals, such as CNSaúde, author of the request that led to the suspension of the floor, are confirmed.

The meeting takes place at a time of pressure on the part of nurses who await the release of new wages. The floor was sanctioned in August last year by former President Jair Bolsonaro and suspended by the STF in September.

Associations representing hospitals are trying to overturn the law that established a minimum salary of R$ 4,750 for nurses. Nursing technicians should receive 70% of this amount, and nursing assistants and midwives, 50%.

In December, Congress enacted a PEC that unlocked public funds to pay for public hospitals and SUS care networks. Health institutions, however, claim that there are still no sources of perennial funding to solve the problem, and the shortfall could exceed R$ 13 billion, according to an estimate by Abrasf (Brazilian Association of Capital Finance Secretaries).

The Lula government promises to edit a provisional measure to regulate the payment of resources, but there is still no date set for the publication of the text.
