The number of Brazilians from the lower classes who invest in financial products grew last year, according to a survey that Anbima (Brazilian Association of Financial and Capital Market Entities) will release in the coming days based on data from Datafolha.
In class C, the presence of investors rose from 29% in 2021 to 36% in 2022. In classes D/E, the increase was from 16% to 20%. In classes A/B, it rose from 52% to 57%.
In the general average of the population that invests in some financial product, the increase was 31% to 36% last year, totaling approximately 60 million investors. For 2023, the survey projects the entry of 9 million new investors in the market, with an increase of 5 percentage points.
Anbima claims that, before the pandemic, the survey did not record data from the lower classes, however, recent numbers show growth in the population’s interest in saving money.
The survey also measured the banking capillarity of Brazilians. The share of people from classes D/E who have a bank account is at 69%, while classes A/B (96%), followed by C (87%) remain with greater participation.
The volume of Brazilians without accounts at any institution may exceed 24 million people.
Among bank users, 69% claim to have an account at traditional banks and with physical branches, while 36% have accounts at digital banks.
