Michael Jordan, NBA star, leads; tennis player Serena Williams is the only woman in the ranking
Big names in world sport are part of the list of richest athletes of all time. In a survey carried out by the website “Statista”, Neymar is the only Brazilian present in the ranking. Michael Jordan leads the numbers, while Serena Williams is the only female representative.
The list features 40 athletes and details the assets of those who have earned the most money in history. The portal, specialized in sports finance, used salaries, sponsorships and businesses to survey how much each one earned over the years.
Leader of the ranking, Michael Jordan has a net worth of US$ 3.3 billion. The NBA star reached the top of the list after selling his share of the Charlotte Hornets, along with profit shares in the tennis line that bears his name and the licensing of other products.
Golfers dominate top 4
Then three golfers complete the top 4: Tiger Woods ($2.5 billion), Arnold Palmer ($1.7 billion) and Jack Nickalus ($1.63 billion). The sport has high prize values, in addition to expressive payments made by sponsors who, for the most part, are luxury brands.
Cristiano Ronaldo ($1.58 billion), LeBron James ($1.53 billion), Lionel Messi ($1.48 billion), Floyd Mayweather ($1.41 billion), Roger Federer ($1 .38 billion) and golfer Phil Mickelson (US$ 1.36 billion) complete the top 10 ranking.
unique presence
The only Brazilian on the list, Neymar ranks 17th. Shirt 10 of the Brazilian National Team, the player has assets valued at US$ 860 million (about R$ 4.13 billion). The numbers put Neymar above athletes like Tom Brady, Lewis Hamilton, Rafael Nadal and Stephen Curry.
Serena Williams is the only woman in the ranking. The tennis player is in 38th position with a net worth of US$ 600 million.
Defender of equal pay between men and women in sport, the tennis player has more Grand Slam titles than Roger Federer, but the net worth corresponds to less than half of the accumulated by the Swiss.
