New Party reviews use of party fund and Amoêdo complains – 02/24/2023 – Panel SA

In the coming days, the Novo party is preparing to review one of its pillars: the rejection of the use of the party fund. But it will have to face criticism from its founder, João Amoêdo, who, although he has disconnected from the acronym, remains a reference for voters who supported the party in 2018.

On Tuesday (28), the party’s national convention will deliberate on the use of the fund’s income, which revolves around R$ 1 million per month.

It will also rethink the remuneration of the members of the directories, which today operate on a voluntary basis. Both points were repeated like a mantra by voters and candidates of the acronym in the last elections, since Novo emerged in 2018 with the presidential candidacy of Amoêdo and elected Romeu Zema governor of Minas Gerais.

For Amoêdo, who left last November saying that the party was disfigured and distanced itself from its original conception, changing the pillars of the Novo at this moment is a mistake.

“It strikes me that the results were bad in the elections and in the number of affiliates. Even so, they want to remunerate a management that had a bad result. And using public money. Those who will vote in favor of the remuneration are the people themselves who will be remunerated” , says Amoedo. According to him, the possibility of using only the fund’s income does not mitigate the problem because they should consider inflation.

“This has always been a Novo value and has always been seen as an ethical issue”, says the founder.

Sought by the Panel SA, the current management of Novo states that, today, the majority of directors and agents are in favor of the changes.

“The political and electoral context has changed a lot since the party was founded in 2011. The party fund has increased considerably, donations from legal entities have been prohibited, donations from individuals have been limited, and the electoral fund, which did not even exist, corresponds today to a figure of almost BRL 6 billion. All these changes had a huge impact on the last elections, which led Novo leaders to reflect on what degree of competitiveness they want to have”, says the caption, in a note.
