New Party releases use of party fund money – 02/28/2023 – Panel SA

The New Party approved, on the night of this Tuesday (28), the use of income from the party fund, which revolves around R$ 1 million per month.

The decision was taken amid criticism from parliamentarians affiliated with the party, such as Marcel van Hattem (RS) and Gilson Marques (SC).

The refusal to use the so-called fundão resources was repeated by candidates and Novo voters as a mantra since the party emerged on the political scene in 2018.

Another enthusiast for renouncing the use of resources by the party, João Amoêdo, founder of the acronym, has already been criticizing the party’s decision to review the measure, which is considered one of its pillars. Although he disaffiliated last year, Amoêdo remains a reference for voters who supported his candidacy for president in 2018.

Felipe D’Avila, presidential candidate in 2022, told Panel SA that he considers it positive to rethink the matter. “I am in favor of opening the discussion on the use of a resource that the party cannot return to public coffers. It may be an opportunity to use it with transparency and clear criteria that will help the party to strengthen itself”, he says. Last year, D’Avila said that Novo was the only party that did not use the fund, an exalted posture as an advantage over the competition at the time.

According to Novo, the change is fundamental for “internal democracy, competitiveness and the expansion of the acronym in the current context of Brazilian politics”.

“With 85% of the votes in favor of issues that were until recently sensitive, such as the use of the Party Fund’s income, it was quite clear that the party has matured for a new moment, and will, from now on, have much more capillarity and competitiveness in the face of the our competitors”, said Eduardo Ribeiro, president of the acronym, in a note.
