The Minister of Labor, Luiz Marinho, said this Tuesday (24th) that new adhesions to the anniversary withdrawal of the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) should be suspended in March. The FGTS Board of Trustees should analyze the topic at a meeting scheduled for March 21st.

“We must put an end to this anniversary withdrawal format. The contracts that exist, let’s not create distortion,” said the minister in an interview with GloboNews. According to Marinho, there is a complaint among workers that once they join the birthday withdrawal, the FGTS values are retained for two years in case of dismissal.

The minister pointed out that the measure still “weakens the fund for investment to generate jobs”. At the beginning of the year, Marinho had already declared that the government intended to end the FGTS anniversary withdrawal, however, a day later, he went back and stated that the continuity of the modality would be debated.
