The Mobile World Congress (MWC), which ended this Thursday (29) in Barcelona, ​​was an opportunity for manufacturers to showcase their innovations.

From the flying vehicle to the transparent computer, here are five proposals that stood out in this edition of MWC.

A smart ring

The South Korean company Samsung presented its “Galaxy Ring”, a smart ring, to the public for the first time in Barcelona.

Adaptable to all sizes and available in three colors —gold, silver and black—, the ring will be commercialized in the second half of 2024.

For now, Samsung does not provide further details about the scope of its applications, but says that it could be useful in the health field.

“One of the biggest challenges facing the healthcare industry today is data fragmentation,” the group said, and the ring could collect precise information about the wearer, such as their sleep state or heart rate, using discrete sensors.

Flying electric vehicle

The company Alef Aeronautics presented its “Model A”, the first vehicle capable of traveling both on roads and in the air, which will be available to the general public, according to the manufacturer.

Equipped with a 100% electric engine, it will be able to transport two people within a radius of 170 kilometers.

With an autonomy of “more than an hour”, the vehicle “drives like a car, looks like a car”, but can take off vertically, allowing it to take off and land anywhere, as indicated by Jim Dukhovny, director of the startup Californian created in 2015.

Alef Aeronautics, which obtained an airworthiness certificate from the United States Civil Aviation Regulatory Agency (FAA) last year, hopes to begin production of its vehicle, which will cost around US$300,000, by the end of 2025.

He offers his paw, makes canine movements and can go up and down stairs. Developed by Chinese smartphone maker Tecno Mobile, the “Dynamic 1” robot uses “artificial intelligence” and “advanced algorithms” to simulate a dog, according to the company.

Equipped with microphones, optical sensors and a lighting system at eye level, this small black robot with a look inspired by the German Shepherd can recognize its owner’s voice.

According to Tecno, it is also possible to give orders to it through your smartphone.

“Dynamic 1” provides the “joy of being a pet owner” without the disadvantages of a live animal, the company highlighted.

The ThinkBook Transparent Display laptop, from Chinese manufacturer Lenovo, has a 17.3-inch transparent screen that works based on micro-LED, allowing you to see through it and superimpose virtual images on the real world seen behind the screen.

With a commercial interest yet to be defined, the laptop does not have a keyboard, but rather a touch-sensitive surface where the keys can be projected.

Lenovo has not announced a release date.

“Smart” companion doll

With her soft body, her flowery shirt and her brown hair, she looks like a child’s toy. But the Hyodol doll, designed for elderly people, hides beneath its harmless appearance a robot equipped with sensors and microprocessors enhanced with artificial intelligence.

It was designed to allow seniors suffering from loneliness or addiction to “live independently while remaining in touch with society,” according to its South Korean manufacturer, who claims the doll “strengthens cognitive health.” and “reduces people’s stress.”

The robotic doll can interact with its owner, remind them to take their medication, make them play memory games or alert them if it doesn’t detect movement for an extended period of time.
