Motorcycle production exceeds 155,000 units and reaches the best result of the year

Manaus (AM) – The motorcycle industry reached the best result of the year in May. A survey by the Brazilian Association of Manufacturers of Motorcycles, Mopeds, Scooters, Bicycles and Similar – Abraciclo, points out that 155,118 units left the production lines of the Industrial Pole of Manaus (PIM), an increase of 19.5% in comparison with the same month of last year (129,781 motorcycles) and 32.8% compared to April (116,809 units).

Still according to the association’s data, this was the best result for the month since 2012 (171,734 motorcycles).

In the accumulated result for the year, 668,997 motorcycles were manufactured, a volume 17.5% higher than the same period last year (569,598 units).

The president of Abraciclo, Marcos Bento, explains that the numbers reached in the first five months of the year are within the plan. “We had a full month in May, with 22 business days, which allows us to better balance supply and demand for motorcycles. ”

Bento points out that the motorcycle segment should follow the upward trend. “The motorcycle is an agile and economical option for commuting. In addition, it has advantages, such as lower acquisition value and low maintenance cost, which attracts new consumers”,

On the other hand, the president of Abraciclo recalls that the rise in interest rates, access to credit and the decrease in the purchasing power of the population can curb this growth.

In May, 161,505 motorcycles were licensed, a volume 21.1% higher compared to the same month last year (133,344 units) and 33.5% higher compared to April (120,969 motorcycles). According to data from Abraciclo, this was the best result for the month since 2011 (171,681 units).

“The good performance of retail sales is a reflection of the production curve in the manufacturing units that had full production in April. With this, the dealerships were able to serve the consumer who is waiting for a motorcycle”,

explains Benedict.

“In this way, we are reducing possible queues”, he completes.

The three most popular categories were Street (86,247 units and 53.4% ​​market share), Trail (30,015 motorcycles and 18.6%) and Scooter (19,555 units and 12.1%).

Low displacement motorcycles were the most licensed in May, with 131,551 units and 81.5% of the market. Next came the medium displacement models (24,787 motorcycles and 15.3% share) and the high displacement models (5,167 units and 3.2%).

In percentage terms, medium displacement motorcycles registered an increase of 41.3% and high displacement motorcycles, 32.4%. According to data from Abraciclo, in May last year, 17,537 models from 161 to 449 cylinders and 3,903 units with engines above 450 cylinders were licensed.

“The demand for motorcycles equipped with more powerful engines has grown a lot. These are consumers who opt for models with more technological resources and also use the motorcycle for leisure”,

says the president of Abraciclo.

From January to May, 639,683 motorcycles were licensed, a volume 24% higher than that registered in the same period last year (515,724 units). The most featured categories are the same as the monthly ranking: Street (335,951 motorcycles and 52.5% of the market), Trail (119,446 units and 18.7%) and Scooter (84,776 units and 13.3%).

Market by region

The Northeast region registered the highest growth in the ranking of registrations. In May, 49,807 motorcycles were licensed, an increase of 26.9% compared to the same month last year (39,246 units).

In absolute numbers, the leadership is in the Southeast region, which registered 63,363 licenses and 39.2% of market share. In second place was the Northeast (49,807 registrations and 30.8% of the market), followed by the North (21,026 licensing and 13.0%), the Midwest (14,331 registrations and 8.9%) and the South (12,978 licensing and 8.0%).

The positions were maintained in the year-to-date ranking: Southeast (247,170 licensed motorcycles and 38.6% of the market), Northeast (192,579 registrations and 30.1%), North (81,938 licenses and 12.8%), Midwest (60,725 licensing and 9.5%) and South (57,271 licensing and 9.0%).

Exports

The motorcycle manufacturers located in the PIM exported 3,020 units in May. The volume is 49.6% lower than that registered in the same month last year (5,990 motorcycles) and 17.5% lower compared to April (3,659 units).

According to data from Comex Stat, which records total shipments for each month, analyzed by Abraciclo, the three main markets were the Mercosur countries. Colombia ranked first, with 1,632 units and 33.3% of the total exported volume. Argentina ranked second (1,350 motorcycles and 27.6% of exports), followed by Uruguay (636 units and 6.1%)

In the accumulated result for the year, exports totaled 16,955 units, down 17.4% compared to the same period in 2022 (20,523 motorcycles).

Still according to Comex Stat data, the three main destinations were Colombia (6,762 motorcycles and 29.1% of exports), Argentina (6,836 units and 27.4%) and the United States (2,762 motorcycles and 11.9%).
