Seven out of ten Brazilians have already been the target of at least one financial scam applied via the internet. That’s what a survey by cybersecurity company NordVPN shows.
The report shows that, of the total number of people exposed to scams, 37% reported concrete threats. The most frequent cases involved bank transactions via Pix.
For 75% of respondents, fraud involving payments via Pix were considered serious incidents.
According to NordVPN, Pix gave Brazilians more convenience, but opened loopholes for scams.
“About 15% of Brazilians have been personally impacted by financial fraud using PIX payments in the past year,” said Daniel Markuson, Digital Specialist at NordVPN. “The same amount of people also fell victim to fake internet shops and had their bank card information stolen.”
The survey was carried out by Cint between the 20th and 22nd of March with internet users between 18 and 75 years old.
