So a female supporting character, the girl with a strong genius inspired by the daughter of her creator, Maurício de Sousa, ended up becoming the protagonist of her group, Turma da Mônica, the greatest exponent of national comics. In the process of having her own “Mônicaverso”, this year the character turns 60 with a gift: a Gol plane all themed in her honor.

A sticker with the classic scene of Mônica throwing Samsão in the air, “Mônica’s plane”, a Boeing 737-800 (registration PR-GXW) from Gol, will fly for the first time this Monday morning (17), from Confins (MG) ) to Congonhas Airport, in São Paulo.

The report of Sheet had access to the aircraft still in the hangar where it was themed. In addition to the “livery” (as the special paintings on the planes are called), the interior of “Mônica’s plane” was also completely decorated as a surprise party for her.

At the entrance, a notice makes it clear that this is an “area subject to rabbits”; the headrests of the seats received special covers of the characters, which are also stamped on the luggage racks, the service carts and even the bathroom, where the mirrors got Samson’s little ears to make the passengers’ selfies more fun. Over the loudspeakers, “Commander Mônica” should give an air of grace by making announcements to the passengers.

There are even more discreet interventions to surprise the most attentive passengers. Some luggage racks have “forgotten” crew bags inside them, others have hidden sweets… On the seats, some tables have strips created especially to decorate the aircraft and, in the rear galley, there is a hand-signed plaque by Maurício de Sousa himself.

“We wanted to make the plane as a great gift for Mônica. So the interior could only be a surprise party, full of friends and with many surprises”, says Michel Neuhaus, design director at Maurício de Sousa Produções. He says he put several “easter eggs” in the aircraft’s theme. “Monicão, for example, appears inside the small bag for transporting pets in the cabin. There is a magic star as a gift for Mônica, which is also hidden in the luggage compartment…”

Passengers who want to participate in Mônica’s “surprise party” need to be lucky, since after the inaugural flight, the plane can operate on any Gol route, national or international.

These themes, which mobilize amateur and professional photographers at airports around the world, are common: Harry Potter also has his plane on Gol; Disney characters such as Mickey, Miney, Daisy and Donald Duck are featured on Azul’s aircraft, and Latam has the Stormtrooper Plane, a Boeing 777 with a Star Wars theme.
