Manaus (AM) – The Lúcia Almeida lookout, which is being built by the City of Manaus, through the “Nosso Centro” program, will receive an exhibition by the Brazilian Navy, telling part of its history and work in the Amazon. The lookout will be in the São Vicente complex, and will have, in addition to the lookout, a large house and square, in the historic center.

During a visit to the construction site, vice-admiral Thadeu Lobo, sea and war captain Wilson Nogueira and lieutenant Raquel Falcão learned about the details of the project developed by the Municipal Institute of Urban Planning (Implurb), accompanied by the director of Urban Planning, the architect and urban planner Pedro Paulo Cordeiro.

The exhibition, which will be permanent and will have a part with temporary modules, will occupy the first floor of the observation deck, where cultural actions will be concentrated.

“The Navy has an important role, not only in control and related to the Armed Forces, but socially as well, with services provided to our riverside communities and society. With the exhibition, the idea is to publicize what the Navy represents for the city and for the Amazon as a whole”,

Cordeiro explained.

After the visit, the Navy and Implurb will have new meetings and a schedule with the 9th Naval District team, including a specialist in setting up cultural and historical exhibitions.

“They are going to develop the exhibition with images, exhibitions, objects and interactive so that it is the most interesting for the public to know their mission and actions in the Amazon”,

In March of this year, Mayor David Almeida presented the “Our Center” program to the Command of the 9th Naval District, launched by the City of Manaus in the vicinity of the Armed Forces facilities, configuring a broad rehabilitation project for the capital’s Center.

Urban interventions are already underway in the surroundings, between Avenida 7 de Setembro and Avenida Bernardo Ramos, including the lookout point, Largo de São Vicente and the Thiago de Mello mansion.

In 2005, the Brazilian Navy activated the Command of the 9th Naval District, which has an operational and administrative structure, in an area of ​​considerable national strategic importance. The command has ten directly subordinate military organizations in its structure – Command of the Amazon Flotilla, River Captaincy of the Western Amazon, 1st Battalion of Riverside Operations, Naval Polyclinic of Manaus, Hydrography and Navigation Center of the Northwest, Center of Intendance of the Navy in Manaus , Rio Negro Naval Station, River Captaincy of Tabatinga, 1st Squadron of Helicopters for General Use of the Northwest and the River Captaincy of Porto Velho.
