Another vaccine, called Dengvaxia, had already been approved by the agency, but its use was indicated only for people who had already been infected by the disease.
Anvisa will evaluate the efficacy, accuracy, effectiveness, safety and also the economic impact of the new technology. In its composition, the new vaccine contains four different serotypes of the virus that causes the disease. Qdenga has also already been approved for use and marketing in the European Union on December 20, 2022 and is produced by Japanese pharmaceutical company Takeda Pharma.
It showed an overall efficacy of 80.2% against the disease 12 months after the application of the second dose. The studies also indicated that Qdenga reduced hospitalizations by 90%.
