Minister Luiz Marinho, of Labor, once again defended the discussion on the formalization of workers on service intermediation platforms, such as Uber and 99 drivers, for example. According to a statement given this Tuesday (7) at an event by the Frente Parlamentar do Empreendedorismo, Marinho said that he is “very sorry” if the owners of the apps do not like to debate this topic.

“If Uber and the other platforms don’t like a formalization process, I’m sorry. Uber won’t leave because Brazil is the number one market, but nobody wants anyone to leave. On the contrary, what we want is guarantees of social protection for these workers, the appreciation of work. You have to have rules, control so you don’t have an excess of working hours”, he said, according to the newspaper O Globo.

In an interview with Valor Econômico last month, Marinho had already advanced the discussion on the subject and said he was not concerned with a possible decision by Uber to leave the country – the Post Office could supply the function, said the minister.

Marinho recognizes that some of the app drivers may not want formalization under the CLT, but that it is necessary to have a regulation with protections and “quality remuneration”.

In a note to O Globo, Uber informed that it defends a regulation that guarantees social security rights to drivers, promoting “the inclusion of workers via application in Social Security, with platforms facilitating enrollment and paying a portion of contributions, in a model proportional to earnings of each partner.
