Minister Alexandre Silveira, of Mines and Energy, said this Tuesday (29) that the government plans to present two bills to Congress to reduce the electricity bill of consumers in general. According to him, one of the proposals will seek a balance – “dividing the bill better”, he said – in the distribution of energy costs among different types of users, while the second project will focus on the energy transition in the transport sector.
During a joint hearing of the Chamber’s Mines and Energy and Financial Inspection and Control commissions, Silveira highlighted the need to reformulate the system. He used the example of Pará, where Aneel had authorized a 16% readjustment, later reduced to 11% after negotiations.
He stated that this type of problem has been postponed and that in recent years, ordinary consumers have borne most of the costs, while large consumers purchase energy on the free market and pay less.
The first project aims to restructure the sector and face the imminent collapse of electricity prices for regulated consumers. Silveira emphasized the excessive creation of charges for this group and the need to reverse this situation.
“We are getting close to the collapse of the price of electricity for the Brazilian regulated consumer. We were creating charges for the regulated consumer and now it has reached the limit”, he said.
The second project is focused on the energy transition in the transport sector, including the promotion of “green diesel”. The minister informed that around BRL 60 billion will be invested in this new product, boosting modernization and sustainability in the sector.
The government’s initiatives thus seek to balance the financial burden of the energy system and promote a transformation towards more sustainable sources in the transport sector.
