The Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, defended this Thursday (6) the resumption of the health economic-industrial complex to reduce what she called the country’s vulnerability in the face of the great challenges that arise. “We saw, in the covid-19 pandemic, the weight that this issue has, the vulnerability of life, not just an economic vulnerability.”
In a statement during the re-launching meeting of the National Council for Industrial Development (CNDI), at the Planalto Palace, Nísia also defended the convergence of public policy in the area of health and industrial policy, aiming at universal access with quality, of the Unified Health System Health (SUS).
“The vulnerability of our country in the area of health, considering the set, medicines, vaccines and medical equipment, in the year 2022, was US$ 23 billion. It is a big dependency. It is the second largest dependency from a sectoral point of view in Brazil”,
said, citing that the country is dependent on 90% of so-called active pharmaceutical ingredients.
During the meeting, the minister also highlighted the importance of drawing up a preparedness program for health emergencies, including local production capacity for health inputs. “Just remember that we didn’t have adequate masks, respirators available, at that fatal moment, when we lost more than 700 thousand lives.”
“This resumption of industrial policy and the health economic-industrial complex is a strategic opportunity for Brazil, both to guarantee health as a vector of development, and also thinking about our country’s international role. This has been a constant theme.”
he said, citing Brazilian participation in blocs such as the G20, Mercosur and Brics.
