Michelin announces list of restaurants in Rio and SP in May – 03/21/2024 – Food

Michelin, one of the most famous gastronomic publications in the world, announces on May 20th its list of starred restaurants from the joint guide that brings together restaurants in Rio and São Paulo.

The award ceremony will take place in Rio de Janeiro for the first time, thanks to an investment of R$ 1.9 million from the city council so that the city could acquire the right to host the award ceremony, in an event at the Copacabana Palace hotel — the same hotel that hosted the award ceremony. 50 Best Latin America.

At the ceremony, all the restaurants recently added or maintained in the selection will be announced – which can be classified with three stars (exceptional cuisine), two stars (excellent) and one star (refined) –, in addition to those acclaimed in the Bib Gourmand category, which highlights the relationship between quality and price.

To evaluate homes, specialized inspectors visit establishments anonymously. Options are judged according to five parameters: quality of products, harmony of flavors, mastery of culinary techniques, personality of the kitchen, consistency over time and across the menu as a whole.

The latest version of the red-covered guide (dedicated to restaurants) was published in 2020, only in the online format – available on the Michelin app –, due to the pandemic. Brazil has never had a restaurant with a three-star rating: in 2020, the restaurants rated with two stars were the extinct Ryo (SP), DOM (SP), Oteque (RJ) and Oro (RJ).

This year, the launch ceremony of the Michelin Guide Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo will be broadcast from 8pm on the official YouTube channel.
