The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, criticized this Thursday (11) the proposed conditions for the free trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur presented by the Europeans.
According to him, Itamaraty is analyzing the negotiation parameters, which he classified as “extremely” hard.
“The European Union, without direct criticism of the group, of any of the countries directly, has a very protectionist bias. We are reassessing the agreement,” he said at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
The minister also pointed out that the agreement is extremely complex, as it involves 27 countries, but that the new conditions presented by the European bloc could cause enormous damage to Brazil.
“[O documento prevê] a series of barriers and possibilities including retaliation, sanctions, based on an extremely rigid and complex European environmental legislation for verification”, he criticized.
