Mercadante prepares BRL 1 billion for internet in schools – 03/13/2023 – Panel SA

The president of the BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, asked the bank’s team to structure in the coming weeks the proposal to allocate up to R$ 1 billion from Fust (Fund for Universalization of Telecommunications Services) resources to connectivity projects in schools and favelas.
The idea is to present it on the occasion of the one hundred days of the Lula government. There is also an amount of R$ 200 million in non-refundable investments.
The gesture takes up the old flag of Mercadante’s passage through the Senate, when he presented a bill for the mandatory application of 75% of Fust’s resources in digital inclusion programs. The goal was that, in five years, all public schools in the country would have broadband and one computer for every ten students per shift.
