Mega-Sena: How much of the prize does IR keep? – 05/31/2023 – Market
[ad_1]
The Mega-Sena is accumulated and draws a prize of R$ 57 million this Wednesday (31). But did you know that this amount does not even correspond to 50% of the total that is collected in bets, and that part of this amount is withheld at source by the Income Tax?
The portion withheld is 30% and whoever wins the Mega-Sena prize must declare receipt in the Income Tax, which ends this Wednesday (31), at 23:59, the deadline for submission.
The value of R$ 57 million from contest 2597, drawn this Wednesday, already has 30% discounted. Therefore, the premium could be R$ 74.1 million if this payment did not occur. More than R$ 17 million, in the case of this example, have already been withheld at source.
Whoever wins a Mega-Sena prize needs to declare it in the IR in the “Income Subject to Exclusive/Definitive Taxation” field. If the award was received this year, the amount will only be informed to the Federal Revenue in the declaration sent in 2024.
How is this statement made?
-
Under “Income Subject to Exclusive/Definitive Taxation”, click New. Inform if the prize belongs to the holder or the dependent
-
In the name of the paying source, put Caixa Econômica Federal and its CNPJ is 00.360.305/0001-04
-
In Description, write that it was an amount won in the Mega-Sena. Fill in the net amount received and click OK
However, the 30% that is withheld at source is only part of the amount. In fact, the prize distributed is 43.25% of the total collected. According to Caixa, 19.13% of the betting money is used to fund and maintain the lotteries.
