Earlier this week, mass cuts of employees were announced by many companies in various parts of the world, generating a feeling of insecurity in the people who depend on these firms. In an analysis with specialists, Em Tempo heard professionals about what these layoffs can negatively and positively cause to the Industrial Pole of Manaus (PIM).

Economist Denise Kassama explains that the technology market is dynamic and needs constant innovation. In 2022 alone, Philips lost approximately 1.6 billion euros, due to respiratory devices that would be in trouble. The dismissal action seeks to reverse a loss of income of almost 70% of the company’s market value.

“The electronics market is very dynamic and requires large investments. The big companies in the market today are the Korean ones, Samsung, LG, they have the stamina and structure to launch new things every year. Companies that are a little smaller need to keep up, because the vast majority of people are looking for products that are good and reasonably priced. Good products, however, expensive, are losing space in the Brazilian market”, he analyzes.

Federal deputy José Ricardo (PT) said that, during the previous government, there was no support, stimulus or instruments to strengthen the industry. Parallel to this, there were cuts in the areas of science and technology.

“This affects Brazil in general, naturally companies and, therefore, the economy in general. We think that now in the Lula government, a new moment, expectations of public investments can activate the economy and improve the purchasing power of the population”, he said.

However, the parliamentarian pointed out that this case will not affect the current companies of the Industrial Pole of Manaus. “It is important to maintain the protection of the Free Zone, the maintenance of tax incentives, and leave a climate of tranquility in relation to the economy. No surprises, surprises, and businessmen know that Lula has already said that. The idea is to strengthen the economy, so that companies continue to invest in Brazil and generate jobs”, he added.
